I’m surrounded by 23,000 fans. They’re all clapping and chanting. All in tune with each other, all supporting, all on message.
Despite the draw, there’s a great atmosphere at The Hawthorn’s - football always amazes me how it galvanises people, the passion it creates and loyalty of its followers. Clubs can perform badly, up the price of its tickets and even have public squabbles with its managers – yet, unlike any other ‘product’ its fans remain loyal, through thick or thin.
It's the kind of support that FMCG brands would relish. It gets the press coverage that most people dream of, and while the media makes huge cutbacks, it can still find the staff to attend football press conferences and its photographers to follow its stars.
